The Runaway Train is a track-based family ride rather than another
spinning platform. A chain of cars travels a looped track with a
series of rises and dips, pulling up the climb and gathering speed
on the drops, which makes it the nearest thing to a roller coaster
in our travelling line-up.
One end carries the painted frontboard - a wild-west gold mine
scene with the cartoon characters the ride takes its name from,
and Runaway Train in blue star-decked letters across the top.
It is one of those rides you can see from the far side of the
field, and it pulls people over before they have quite decided
they want a go.
It is also one of the few rides that genuinely covers all ages.
Children queue to go straight back on, and adults ride in the
carriages alongside them rather than watching from the fence,
which makes it a good family anchor next to the
Race-a-Rama at one end of the fair and
the Dodgems at the other.

The Runaway Train goes out through the season to the jobs this
site is about - works family fun days on a field, council
community events, town-centre weekends, fetes and country shows,
and the Christmas markets once the season turns.

Waltzer, it gives mixed-age crowds one ride
they can all go on together, and the queue it pulls helps the
stalls and food units around it.
