Twenty-two feet of fairground classic

The helter skelter is the ride people draw when you say "funfair", and ours is a proper full-size one. The tower stands 22ft tall in red and white stripes with a star on the finial. Riders climb the staircase inside, come out at the 15ft platform and slide down the spiral chute on a mat, which is the whole point of the thing and the reason the queue never quite goes away.

It takes up to four riders at a time, spaced at height thresholds of 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m and 1.8m so the slides are staggered, and each go takes twenty seconds or so. Children ride it, and so do the adults - more of them than would ever admit to queueing for it.

Because it is inflatable rather than a wooden tower, it goes places a traditional helter skelter cannot. Outdoors it pegs down on grass, and indoors it works on a hard floor or artificial grass wherever the ceiling is above 22ft - sports halls, arenas, big marquees. Setup is a blower and a bit of anchoring rather than a crane and a day of scaffolding, which shows in the price and in how quickly it can move between two events on the same weekend.

The Helter Skelter at Your Event

  • 22ft Striped Tower

    A full-height red and white striped tower with an internal staircase, a 15ft slide platform and the star-tipped finial - visible from the far side of the field.

  • Spiral Slide Chute

    Riders come down the spiral chute on slide mats, up to four at a time at staggered heights, so the queue keeps moving at busy events.

  • Indoor or Outdoor

    Outdoors it pegs down on grass. Indoors it works on a hard floor or artificial grass wherever the ceiling clears 22ft, which a wooden helter skelter never could.

  • Children and Adults

    It suits all ages, with riders spaced at 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m and 1.8m height thresholds. It holds a family audience better than almost anything else we run.

  • PIPA Tested

    PIPA registered (tag 40630), inspected annually by RPII-certified inspectors and manufactured to BS/EN14960, with £5m public liability insurance as standard.

  • Two Towers Available

    We own the round version and a square-tower one, so back-to-back bookings and multi-site events are covered without subcontracting.

Space, surface and access

The unit itself takes 27.6ft x 22.1ft, and you want 30ft x 30ft of clear space with 5ft of access width to get it into position. It stands 22ft tall, so indoor venues need the ceiling height checked along with the door and route in.

Outdoors it must go on grass, pegged down - outdoor hard standing does not work for it. Indoors is fine on hard floors or artificial grass because the walls contain the inflatable.

The blower unit needs a continuous power supply. If the site has no mains power we can bring a generator, so mention it when you enquire rather than finding out on the morning.

Taken to the big houses and the town squares

The helter skelter goes out to the jobs this site is about. It has stood on the lawn at Wentworth Woodhouse, in market squares with bunting and food stalls either side of it, on town-centre closed roads and at fetes where the queue forms before the blower has finished.

It is a centrepiece rather than a filler. A fairground line-up reads properly with a tall striped tower in it, and it works alongside the Dodgems and Race-a-Rama as the thing the smaller children are taken to first.

For a Christmas market or winter event it pairs naturally with the Giant Ski Jump - one striped tower for the summer field, one snow-covered one for December.
