The one everybody can hear from across the field

The High Striker is the traditional test-your-strength - the tall tower with Test Your Strength painted down the front, a mallet at the base and a bell at the top. You swing the mallet down onto the pad, a puck runs up the numbered track from 10 to 100, and if you catch it right the puck reaches the top and rings the bell. Everybody at the fair hears it.

There's nothing electronic in it, so there's no power needed - no generator, no cable, no plug to find. It works on grass at a summer fete and indoors on a hard floor, and a tall tower with a bell at the top is visible across a field in a way a tabletop game isn't.

The difficulty adjusts from full-strength all the way down to an easy setting for younger players, so a child can ring the bell on one setting and it'll still test the adults on another. We stock more than one, so we can run a pair side by side for a head-to-head if you've got the space.

Space and setup

The tower stands 3m (10ft) tall and takes 1m x 1m of floor space. You want 2m x 3m clear around it for the mallet swing and the queue, with 3m of clear height overhead.

No power is needed, which is the real advantage over electronic alternatives - it goes on a field, a closed road or a town square without a generator. Being all mechanical, it travels in one piece on the van.

It pairs naturally with the rest of the side stalls - set it at the end of the row and it'll pull people past the Coconut Shy and Hoopla to get to it.

A pair for a head-to-head

The High Striker earns its keep at competitive events. Run two side by side and you've got a head-to-head that settles arguments between departments, teams or year groups - both players swing, both pucks fly, and the one that rings the bell takes it.

We've taken it to university freshers weeks, corporate team-building days and summer balls. A pair of towers at the end of a stall row does more for footfall than almost anything else we can put out.
